CSHL NOTEBOOK

With only four games remaining for most teams in the league, more has become clear for the first round of the playoffs. St. Louis has clinched their second consecutive regular season championship and a bid to the USA Hockey Tier III Junior A National Championship ... Dubuque needs one more point to clinch a top-three spot and Pittsburgh needs one point to clinch the final home-ice advantage spot in the top four ... Flint, Grand Rapids, Metro, Peoria and Motor City will all miss the playoffs ... Nick Frederick scored two goals and added three assists in Queen City's 8-1 win over Grand Rapids on Sunday afternoon ... Frederick and Mike Gionta each tallied hat tricks the night before in a 10-2 win, while Jeff Blackwell recorded two goals and three assists ... Toledo scored four goals in the third period to come from behind and beat Dubuque, 4-3, Saturday night at home ... Jake McHenry tallied three points (two goals, assist) as Cleveland beat Peoria, 6-2, on Sunday ... With a five-goal weekend for Chicago, Louie Educate now has 51 goals - the first 50-goal scorer in the CSHL since Cory Spradling had 55 for St. Louis in the 2006-2007 season ... Metro has four players - Brett Grech, Josh Magnan, Jon Elliott and Jon Wickersham - with 10 or more goals ... St. Louis goaltender Josh Hillegas leads the CSHL with 23 wins and seven shutouts.

ALUMNI NOTEBOOK

Former Columbus goalie Scott Zacharias, now with the CJHL's Pembroke Lumber Kings, committed to Bowling Green State University this week. Zacharias is 31-3-1 (tops in CJHL), with six shutouts (tied for first), a 2.36 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage ... Bismarck forward Casey Kleisinger, an ex-Dubuque forward, was named the NAHL's Central Division Player of the Week on Monday after he posted two goals and an assist last week as the Bobcats celebrated a two-game sweep over North Iowa. The Air Force Academy recruit was also a plus-4 on the weekend. "Now that he has his commitment to Air Force, Casey can start focusing on the task at hand, which is leading our team during the stretch run," said Bobcats head coach Byron Pool, an ex-Quad City coach. "The fact that he's a complete player and can play in any situation will make him very valuable come the playoffs." ... Former Metro forward Dominic Osman was recently traded from the Toledo Walleye to the Florida Everblades in an ECHL trade, while ex-Jets defenseman Steven Oleksy was recently signed by the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads after being released by the IHL's Port Huron Icehawks.
